Looking for inspiration for a little girl room that makes you both happy? This sweet girl room makeover features pastel colors, hints of gold, and a gentle nod to....dinosaurs! Yes that's right, this little 3 year old knew just what she wanted in her room and our goal was to design a space that incorporated her favorite creature while also incorporating timeless design that she could grow into.
Let's start with the "before" pictures....
Our client had recently moved into their home and the previous owner had painted the walls a yellowish color. They knew that their 3 year old daughter would be transitioning to a "big girl bed" soon and they hired us to design a whole new room to help her feel more grown up in her new bed and room!
As you can see, the room had dark wood furniture and not a lot of color. We came up with a plan to update the paint, furniture, rug and decor of the room and create a room she loved!
Step 1: New Paint!
Th first step of this bedroom makeover was thinking through a color scheme. When you think of a little girl's room, pink often pops into your head as the primary color of choice but we wanted to do something a bit different. We looked at so many paint colors buy finally settled on Benjamin Moore "Hollingsworth Green" which turned out to be the perfect soft green paint color. It doesn't lean too gray or too blue and since there is only one window in this room, we wanted a light color that didn't darken the space.
Step 2: Design Board
We created a design board in Canva to showcase the main pieces in the room including the furniture, rug and wall color:

We absolutely loved how this room turned out and so does our client's daughter! There are so many fun details and we will link them all below:
Bed: We love this adorable bed from Pottery Barn paired with this bedspread from Crate and Barrel Kids. The bed is low profile so perfect for a small child but also big enough to accommodate her as she grows! The striped bedding adds an element of contrast against the rug and a pop of pink that isn't overwhelming.
Dresser: We selected the Ava Regency Dresser from Pottery Barn with simple gold pulls and plenty of drawer space to hold all the clothes a girl could need! This Target mirror along with this white and gold lamp added the perfect accents to the space!
Rug: Kids' rooms are one place that an area rug can break the mold and we absolutely love this floral rug from Rifle Paper Co. With soft flowers in pastel colors, it adds texture and color to the room without being overwhelming.
We love this Rifle Paper Company Rug
Adding in the Details!
The real fun in creating this room came in the little details we added. From incorporating the dinosaur theme through a few "girly" stuffed dinos (like this one) and these pastel dinosaur prints from Etsy, to adding in colorful throw pillows and picture frames, we added touches of decor that helped showcase this little girl's likes and personality.
Soft pink scalloped Target curtains helped soften the room with a pop of color and we even added in this princess tulle canopy in the corner of the room along with a pink book basket to create the perfect cozy reading nook!
Finally, we wrapped this project up with some simple closet organization. The previous closet had no bar and floor to ceiling shelves so we removed the bottom half, added in a bar for clothes and put our favorite Target Cube shelf in for storage. Kids' thrive with a simple system and we created a home for her books, toys and shoes.
And that covers it! Let me know in the comments or on Instagram what your thoughts are on this room and if you have questions about where an item came from!
